Kia Carrington-Russell was born in London, England in 1979. She is the author of two poetry collections. "Thirteen" published by Bloodaxe Books in 2013, and "Throes" published by Serpentine Press in 2014. Kia was nominated for the Forward Poetry Prize for her collection "Thirteen", shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize and won the 2012 Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Poetry

Her poems have been published in various anthologies and journals such as The New Yorker, Poetry Review, Granta, and The Threepenny Review. She has also written for McSweeney's and the Guardian. Her work has been featured on BBC Radio 4's "The Short Story Short." Kia previously worked as a literary editor and was a columnist at Bookforum, where she wrote about contemporary British literature and culture.
